![]() The realism level isn't pushed in your face with lots of data and obscure references. An unprecedented simulation of Command and Control (C2) combines with Relative Spotting to realistically portray the flow of information and responsibility between soldiers as they share information with each other on what they can see on the battlefieldĪll of these elements, and many more, seamlessly fit together to create the most realistic battlefield experience out there. Any wargamer worth his weight in gunpowder knows that Fog of War is one of the most important battlefield elements. This is a system which ensures that each soldier has their own unique view of the battlefield, avoiding the "Borg" issue seen in many games where once one person has spotted an enemy, automatically everyone else has spotted it and can fire on it as well. The simulation of independent soldiers is important in another regard because it allows Combat Mission to have what we call Relative Spotting. The advanced Tactical AI (TacAI) models the psychological state and inherent qualities of every soldier on the battlefield, allowing for genuine battlefield behavior from every soldier as if they were their own free thinking individual. There are no arbitrary values (hitpoints) or precalculated resolution tables (CRTs) that so often produce frustratingly inaccurate results. Weapon penetration values and armor protection are based on extremely detailed real life data and scientific algorithms that are specific to exactly what is seen in the game. In the real world having the best weapons means nothing if the soldiers crewing them are balled up in fear or are too distracted to see what's going on around them. As important as these battlefield concerns are, most other games give them short shrift or don't bother covering them at all. Experience, Morale, Leadership, and other elements operate at the individual soldier level and collectively transform how units behave. Perhaps the most important feature of Combat Mission is its detailed and innovative portrayal of "soft factors". Unlike other games that claim this level of realism, Combat Mission actually delivers it across the whole spectrum of warfare, including the interaction of weather, lighting, and terrain on how units and their weapons function. Advanced vehicle damage modeling allows for tracking of each sub-system, including the most realistic ballistics, armor and post-armor effects available in any game. Unlike other 3D tactical wargames, Combat Mission combines real world physics with a thoroughly researched portrayal of forces, right down to what the individual soldiers cary into battle. HOW UNITS ARE PORTRAYEDĪll units are portrayed one for one in 1:1 scale in high resolution polygon 3D models with articulated suspensions, animated hatches, and other features that make them feel real. A powerful map and scenario Editor allows you to create battles or campaigns for yourself and others. I was right! They did not refund me. I went on holiday, worrying that they would not give my money back, which did not feel like a holiday. I found another hotel because I had already paid for the flights. After a long struggle and a lot of stress, i finally wanted it to be over and cancelled the accommodation. When I asked for a 5 star hotel, a half board basis like I paid for, they told me to pay extra! You'd be wrong to think it ended there. What I paid for was a 5 star hotel but they tried to replace it with some crap hotels. Finally, 1 week before Easter, when prices went high, the TT confirmed that my accommodation was indeed not available any more. I resorted to writing on their Facebook and even though they said all that sorry and crap, they never did anything about it. They promised to call me in maximum 48 hours, which they never did. I grew more and more anxious and frustrated. After another week I had to call them again and they said they still did not know what was happening. Despite my email to them! They said they would investigate and call me. Let me say this, reaching them wasn't always easy and I often wasted a lot of time waiting on the line and getting really frustrated! When I did reach them, they acted like they had no idea about it. Wait, it's not over! I then called them and asked them. They did not get back to me for over 2 weeks. Can you believe? I was going to go there and no hotel! I emailed TT and asked for an explanation. The answer came back saying "we are actually closed during that period and informed our agents about this". 1 month before I was due to go on my holiday, I sent the hotel an email asking if it would be possible for us to add one more person in the accommodation. When I was on the phone with them, somehow they kept increasing the price, which should have told me something but I was desperate to book it so I went with it. So I went ahead and booked it well in advance. I wanted to go away for Easter, for a much needed break following a stressful period. I booked a holiday with them early this year. ![]() Well I can imagine you do not need this advice anymore but out there someone thinking about booking with TT can be saved! ![]() ![]() ![]() About a decade later, Roland “Joe” Giroux, who owned the complex, decided to sell off the individual units, which were relocated to other neighborhoods in the city. The house boasts 18 rooms to accommodate the Hermans and their full staff when visiting, although it doesn’t look that large from the outside. The wealthy Herman family had acquired the 300-acre cattle ranch in early 1936 in order to establish Nevada residency and take advantage of the state’s favorable tax laws. Constructed in 1936, the structure was commissioned by Raphael Herman, his brother Norman Herman, and Norman’s wife, Mariana. In addition to the Garvey House, Williams was called upon to design the Rafael Herman home, a Classical Revival-style house that is now part of Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. The Abelmans owned the home until 1978 (Nick died in 1951 and his widow, June, continued to live in it until her death in 1978), when it was sold and converted into a single home. Abelman had gotten his start running casinos in Goldfield and Tonopah in the early 20th century, before relocating to Reno to operate several gambling establishments. Following her death in 1942, the home was purchased by Reno gaming boss Nathan “Nick” Abelman and his wife. Built at a cost of more than $40,000, the house was the most expensive home ever built in Reno up to that time. Apparently familiar with Williams’ work, she hired the architect to design a two-story, white Classical Revival-style duplex with French Regency and landscaping. His first job in the Biggest Little City was in 1934, when he designed a duplex at 599 California Avenue, known as the Luella Garvey House, after its original owner. But Williams, who was the first African American member of the prestigious American Institute of Architects, also designed a handful of buildings in the Reno area (as well as several in Las Vegas). Additionally, Williams was in high demand among the Hollywood crowd, designing homes for Frank Sinatra, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson, Lucille Ball, Barbara Stanwyck, and many others. It’s not surprising since Williams, who lived most of his life there, designed such iconic properties as the Los Angeles County Courthouse and the spider-like, futuristic Theme Building at the Los Angeles International Airport.
